We help clients obtain financing and clear regulatory hurdles to commence greenhouse gas reduction projects capable of generating carbon credits. We also assist clients with projects from energy-efficiency improvements to landfill gas recovery.

Our experience includes the following representative client matters:

  • Assisting the Prince of Wales’ Rainforest Project to fund prevention of deforestation activities in South America
  • Counseling investors on projects to capture and sequester CO2
  • Counseling clients on projects to capture and store CO2 emissions underground through enhanced oil recovery activities
  • Advising clients on a waste heat recovery project from a gas turbine for various dehydration applications
  • Advising clients on the development of afforestation and reforestation projects for generating carbon credits under the Kyoto Protocol’s Clean Development Mechanism and the Voluntary Carbon Standard
  • Assisting a nonprofit organization to reserve enormous tracks of land for habitat conservation to generate carbon credits from avoided deforestation
  • Through DLA Piper’s New Perimeter international pro bono project and in coordination with the International Small Group and Tree Planting Program, assisting African subsistence farmers planting trees capable of generating carbon credits
